'Way to Go' writer Bob Kushell: 'The BBC pushes boundaries'

The creator of new BBC Three sitcom Way to Go has insisted that the show is about character and not controversy.

Bob Kushell (3rd Rock from the Sun, Suburgatory) spoke to Digital Spy about the new comedy series, which stars Inbetweeners actor Blake Harrison as a cash-strapped young man who sets up an assisted-suicide business with his brother (Ben Heathcote) and their friend (Marc Wootton).

The US writer explained that Harrison's character Scott "constantly questions" his new way of life across Way to Go's six episodes.

"The scripts deal with it in a very delicate way," he explained. "The subject matter is really the background of what the show is about."

Kushell - who also writes for Charlie Sheen's Anger Management - added that he had "never planned" to work in UK television, but praised the "incredible shows" on offer.

"I think the BBC just got this show," he said. "They're so open to pushing the boundaries."

Way to Go begins on Thursday, January 17 at 10pm on BBC Three.

'Primeval: New World' star "so hoping for a second season"

Sara Canning has promised that the finale to Primeval: New World's first season is "wild".

The former Vampire Diaries star told SciFiNow that she is "so hoping" for a second season of the Canadian sci-fi drama, a spinoff from UK series Primeval.

"I think there are so many roads we could take," said the actress. "The finale is so wild, I can't wait to see where they end up together. There are just so many possibilities for season two."

Canning also hinted that a romance blossoming between her character Dylan and Niall Matter's Evan Cross is "a possibility".

"I love the relationship between Dylan and Evan because I don't think it's definable - it's will they/won't they - and I think Niall [Matter] and I both agree that our favourite part of the relationship is the level of respect that they each have for one another," she explained.

PBS Announces Stephen Hawking and 'Latino Americans' Docs, New Drama 'The Bletchley Circle'

PBS announced plans for the "first-ever autobiographical documentary of physicist Stephen Hawking, "A Brief History of Mine," as well as the documentary series "Latino Americans" and the new Sunday-night murder mystery "The Bletchley Circle."

The announcements were among several from PBS at the Television Critics Association winter press tour.

"A Brief History of Mine" (a working title) is slated to air this year and will tell Hawking's life story, largely in his own words. It will feature contributors and Hawking fans including astronaut Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin Jr., actors Jim Carrey and Benedict Cumberbatch, mathematical physicist Sir Roger Penrose and entrepreneur Sir Richard Branson.

"Latino Americans," a three-part series airing in the fall, will be narrated by Benjamin Bratt and will look at how Latinos have helped shape the United States over more than 500 years. The  filmmakers will document the evolution of a “Latino American” identity, from the 1500s to the present day, through interviews with about 100 Latinos in politics, business and pop culture.

The three-part murder mystery "The Bletchley Circle" will air on Sundays beginning on April 21. A production of World Productions distributed worldwide by Content Television, the series aired in the UK in September. It follows ordinary women with the extraordinary ability to break codes, a skill they sharpened during World War II at Bletchley Park, the site of the UK's main decryption site.

The two-hour special "How Sherlock Changed the World," meanwhile, will look at the impact the fictional Holmes had on real investigative techniques. It will premiere in the fall.

PBS also announced that it will hold the second Online Film Festival, featuring short-form films, beginning Monday, March 4, and a multi-platform Independent Film Showcase. Both will feature films from "POV" and "Independent Lens," as well as other public media partners.

PBS Airing Week of Newtown Shooting Coverage

PBS will air a week of specials in February focused on the Newtown, Conn., shootings, the network announced Monday.

Each night of "After Newtown" coverage will begin with a "PBS Newhour" focused on topics connected to the shooting, including violence in the media, gun control, and how other cities that have suffered mass shootings have dealth with their tragedies.

The series will also feature a "Frontline" special report, "Raising Adam Lanza." Created in collaboration with The Hartford Courant, it will profile the shooter, examine his relationship with his mother, and investigate American gun culture.

A "Nova" program, meanwhile, will focus on violence and the brain, while a "Need to Know" will discuss the ripple effects of the shooting. "Washington Week With Gwen Ifill" will look at how politicians are reacting to the tragedy.

Celebrity Big Brother: Lacey Banghard gets naked

Celebrity Big Brother star Lacey Banghard has heated up the house by going completely naked - the day after being nominated for eviction.

The glamour model and Page 3 idol couldn't help but expose herself as she attempted to cover herself up after stepping out of the shower.

Protesting that she had forgotten her towel, Banghard apparently then streaked through the lounge.

She is the second housemate to completely expose themselves to the Celebrity Big Brother cameras after Rylan Clark dropped his onesie before a horrified Neil Ruddock in the garden last week.

Banghard and Heidi and Spencer Pratt had been nominated by their fellow housemates yesterday (January 13).

They join Rylan and Claire Richards, who were chosen by Speidi following their return from the luxury basement on Friday (January 11), in facing the public vote.

Banghard has been named as the favourite to be evicted on Wednesday (January 16), with one bookmaker commenting that she is "too nice" for the house.

Robin Roberts Returning to 'Good Morning America'

Robin Roberts said she is going to begin the process of returning to "Good Morning America." She expects to be back on the show by February.

During a live appearance on the ABC morning show Monday, Roberts said that the bone marrow transplant she underwent in September appeared to have been successful, and that her doctors have cleared her to begin easing back into her co-anchor job.

"I'm coming home," Roberts said. "We're talking now a matter of weeks, not months."

Roberts had to undergo the procedure after she was diagnosed with a rare blood disorder. She left the show in August.

Roberts compared returning to the show after her months-long absence to athletes returning from the disabled list and gingerly reacquainting themselves to life on the field.

"Part of the process of reentry is I got up at 4 a.m. this morning," Roberts said. "That's one thing I have not missed is that alarm clock."

Next week, Roberts will begin making the trek into "Good Morning America's" Times Square home. She will go through her usual routine, getting makeup and testing her body's response to harsh television lighting. However, she said she will not go on the air until she is certain she won't suffer a medical setback.

"Now I have a date in mind that's very personal and very important to me, but I will ultimately listen to, of course, what my doctors say and, course, we have to remember we're in the height of flu season," Roberts said. "There's a lot of factors still."
